This set is for communicating on tow radios. These also have built-in electronic hearing protection (like the peltor electronic ear muffs) that yuo can control the volume of. When there's a loud sound such as a gun shot, the circuitry automatically mutes htat sound so it doesn't get to your ears. Sometimes you can hear even better since you can increase the volume.
